If there is a place to visit that will make you feel more proud to be an American it is definitely Washington D.C. I was fortunate enough to get to go with the family on a work trip they were having at that location. Even though I wasn’t able to go to any meetings I was still going to take advantage of the trip and check out all of the things to see! As soon as the plane landed the first place I wanted to see was the Capital. I did not waste any time, as soon as I checked in my hotel I dropped off my bags and headed that way. One of the best ways to get around in D.C. is the underground train. It takes a little bit of figuring out, but when you do its not very hard to get to where you want to go. Getting to see the nations capital was a pretty cool experience especially when you realize that presidential inaugurations are held there.
Arlington Cemetery was next on the list. I skipped out on the gym that day so decided I was going to walk to get some exercise. It took me an hour to walk from my hotel room to Arlington but it was an unforgettable experience. I walked around that cemetery for at least two hours looking at all the headstones. It really made me appreciate how lucky I am to have been born in this great country.
While I was in Arlington Cemetery I had the chance to visit the tomb of the unknown soldier. This tomb has been guarded every minute of every day since 1937! If you get the chance to visit Washington D.C. this is a place you must go and see, as a proud American you will be glad you did.
